Introduction

Our Client is the world's largest prepaid debit card company, headquartered in Pasadena, California. They are also a payments platform company with its technology platform used by Apple Pay Cash, Uber, and Intuit.

The Business Problem

Over the last few years, the client company was successful with the underbanked users but recently was concerned with the decrease in new user acquisition and also a decline in their cashcard sales. As one of their identified additional channels for growth, mobile apps, the company decided to position itself to its younger users (18-36 years old), aka the Gen-Zs and Millennials. Since this user demographic is markedly attracted to gamification (with its compelling attributes of a challenge, a reward, and a sense of purpose),

the strategy was to create pop culture-based customizable themes and a built-in reward system. The goal of this approach was to achieve increased brand engagement and customer loyalty, ultimately. In addition, this 'theme-able' app would have the standard features like opening your mobile account, money transfer, and creating a vault for saving money for future rewards systems, with launches for both Android and iOS platforms.

The Engagement

The client company, as part of an earlier in-house project, completed the development of the backend features, following which they approached Copper Mobile to assist them in building the highly functional presentation layer for the banking mobile app. Copper Mobile, through proactive and consistent engagement by the

Copper Mobile Leadership and its Technical Architects, quickly came on board and implemented its proprietary themeable UI framework. This robust presentation framework had a server-driven design and a dynamic layout as its significant features.

The Result

The Client company, with the expert assistance and contribution from Copper Mobile, beta launched successfully in the fall of 2019 well within the scope of the timelines and budget.

Copper Mobile continues to support and contribute to various other consequential projects in the Client company and has swiftly become their preferred technology partner of choice.
